This photo was taken next to Arahat Patacara Bhikkhuni’s statue with Ariya Baumann from Switzerland at Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage. Ariya is a meditation teacher whom I met at Dhammasara Monastery about 20 years ago.
She has been invited by the Perth Insight Meditation group to teach a meditation retreat at Jhana Grove from 8th to 17th of March.
It was lovely to see Ariya again.
I am sharing a poem which was written by a lay supporter in Perth to celebrate Ayya Vayama Bhikkhuni Theri’s 50th birthday in 2002.
These are the culprits – the red tail black cockatoos. They drop the nuts and branches on the front and the back garden, on my head two to three times a day and make a big mess.
I keep negotiating with them – just come to have their meal once a day – but they never listen.
There are also times of peace, quiet and beauty at the Hermitage. Even the pink flowers of kindness, delight and joy are blossoming in the very hot and dry summer of 43 degrees in Perth. We only need to give them water and care. It is like the practice on the Eightfold path; it can thrive with our care, persistence, patience and Metta.
We had a group of volunteers came to Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage to install patio in the garden on 17th, 22nd and 23rd December 2023.

On Monday, 20th November 2023, Ayya Seri Bhikkhuni conducted a Meditation Day to remember Ayya Vayama Bhikkhuni Theri. It was the second death anniversary of Ayya Vayama Bhikkhuni Theri.
Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage had the first End of Rains Cloth Offering Ceremony at Samson on Sunday 29th October. It was the 12th End of Rains Cloth Offering Ceremony for Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage, as Ayya Seri Bhikkhuni was staying at Jhana Grove in 2022.
Mai Lan Bui and Van Hoa Le offered the Cloth to the bhikkhuni at the first End of Rains Cloth Offering Ceremony of Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage at Samson. About 45people participated at the ceremony.
Saturday, 28th October 2023 was Ayya Vayana Bhikkhuni Theri ‘s 71st birthday. We had a small dana with people who had supported her and cared for her before she passed away on 20th November 2021.
We also had a chanting and meditation session in the afternoon of 28th October from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. About 15 people participated in the session to remember a kind, compassionate and wise teacher.
May she attain Nibbana.
Venerable Santussika and Venerable Canda Visudhi visited Patacara Bhikkhuni Hermitage on 22nd and 26th October. The bhikkhunis had the opportunity to spend the afternoon together.
The beautiful Samson Park featuring a wide variety of native plants and birds, is only a 2-minute walk from the Hermitage.
